             According to a Harvard University study we refer to often on this site, medical issues are the single most frequently cited cause of personal bankruptcy filings in the United States.  Surprisingly, even shockingly, most people who cite medical issues as causes of their bankruptcies have health insurance that covers at least some of their medical expenses.  Most of these filers could be described as “solidly middle class” before the onset of the medical problems that led them to bankruptcy.
